October in Indianapolis

The Season of Fall Feels and Festivals

🍂 Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning to explore more of the Circle City, October is one of the most magical times to be here.

The air is crisp, the trees glow with autumn colors, and the city comes alive with seasonal festivals, sports, and cozy experiences. As your host, I want to make sure you get the most out of your stay—so here are some of my favorite things to do in Indianapolis this October 🍂

Fall Festivals & Pumpkin Patches

October in Indy wouldn’t be complete without a visit to a pumpkin patch or a fall festival. From hayrides and corn mazes to apple cider and caramel apples, there are plenty of family-friendly spots just outside the city where you can enjoy autumn at its best.

October is also a great month to catch performances at the Indiana Repertory Theatre or explore the city’s galleries and cultural districts.

Haunted Happenings

If you love spooky season, Indianapolis has you covered. Try a haunted house, take a ghost walk downtown, or explore the eerie side of Indiana history at the Indiana State Museum’s haunted tours.

Sports

Fall means football! Whether you catch the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium or enjoy a local college game, the energy in the city is unbeatable.

Outdoor Excursions

October is one of the best times to explore the Indianapolis Cultural Trail or take a stroll along the Canal Walk. For fall foliage, head to Eagle Creek Park or Fort Harrison State Park—both offer breathtaking views this time of year.

Cozy Food & Drinks

Cooler evenings call for cozy meals and warm drinks. Indianapolis has a thriving food scene—don’t miss local favorites in Fountain Square or Mass Ave. Many breweries and coffee shops also offer special seasonal flavors this month (pumpkin spice fans, you’re in luck!).
